There are no elected sheriff's in the counties of this state. The
Rhode Island State Sheriff's Department maintains offices in each of the counties listed on the county jail page. The
RIDOC houses inmates on the state level after felony convictions and being one of only six states in the US with a unified criminal systems, also serves as jail for county inmates. They also have a drug dog Robbie, a Belgian Malinois, that also sniffs out contraband cell phones.
