Using The TDCJ Offender Search

This is a brief demonstration of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice offender search. On the Texas state prison inmate search page you'll need to enter the inmate's complete last name. If you're uncertain of how to spell the first name, you're allowed to do a wildcard search which means you only need to use the first initial followed by an asterisk to see results for inmates with this last name and begin with this first initial.

The initial results page includes inmates names, TDCJ numbers, their race, gender, a projected release date and it includes information to verify the identity of the inmate you're searching for.

Clicking an inmate's name will bring up a details page with SID number, the TDCJ number, the inmate's complete name, their race, gender, their date of birth, the maximum sentence date, the current facility where the inmate is housed, a projected release date, parole eligibility date, special information for scheduled release and at the very bottom, offense history.

The offense history contains offense date, offense title, sentencing date, the county that sentenced the inmate and the case number from court. There is also the sentence duration which includes years months and days.

Regional designations for the nouns "county" or "state" include "parish" and "commonwealth", confusing for non-residents. Localized terminology is indicated using headings to match users, not operators, like a phone book.
