The Mississippi department of corrections has an informative website that's visitor friendly with features that should be easy for you to use. You'll find the MDOC inmate information page is an index that cover's more generic questions/answers to know what life is like inside. MDOC also houses inmates in county jails as approved by the courts. The advantage is for a local sheriff who can request an inmate to perform labor as part of the conviction and also be near home for visitation; a very convenient system provided the jail  hassn't exceed it's  capacity.
